    JOB TITLE:
    Pharmacist

    Job Summary


    The Pharmacist, under the supervision of the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC), according to the organizational structure, provides services within the licensure of a pharmacist in the State of Texas, including the acquisition, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals ordered by physicians.

    The Pharmacist reviews orders, maintains patient profiles, and evaluates drug/food interactions to assure effective and cost-efficient dosing; maintains Hospital formulary and assures that the acquisition, storage, dispensing, and documentation of all pharmaceutical and narcotics are performed in a safe and effective manner and meet the standards outlined by the Texas Board of Pharmacy; utilizes automated systems for control of pharmaceuticals, billing, and communication.


    The Pharmacist projects a professional demeanor and appearance while maintaining the confidentiality of patients, co-workers, and the Hospital and adhering to the HIPAA policy.

    The Pharmacist reports, in good faith, any known or suspected activity that appears to violate laws, rules, or regulations.


    Physical Requirements:
    May be expected to lift up to 25 pounds or up to 50 pounds with assistance. Work is of medium demand; walking or standing most of the time while on duty. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity are essential to performing the designated duties required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties.

    May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations, and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions needed to be taken is essential.

    Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced and required by patient care and the needs of the surgical team.

    Exposure to limited amounts of radiation, hazardous chemicals or substances, and infectious disease processes is a possibility. Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirements of the daily schedule.


    OSHA Exposure Classification:
    Job Category III. Tasks/activities do not entail predictable or unpredictable exposure to blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply.


    Qualifications, Knowledge, and Ability:

    • Demonstrated eligibility for employment in the United States.
    • Holds a pharmacy degree
    • Current licensure in the State of Texas and posts this license in the Pharmacy
    • Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
    • Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement
