    Summary:

    Prairie Island Indian Community (PIIC) is seeking interns for various departments for Summer 2024 beginning in May or June. Our internship opportunities provide students with on-the-job training and experience while making important contributions to the Community. Specific duties for each intern may vary and are intended to provide a well-rounded perspective to satisfy internship requirements. Applicants must be enrolled in a 2 or 4-year degree post-secondary program.

    Job Responsibilities & Duties:
    The ideal candidate for the Communications Intern position will be seeking a degree in Communications, Event Management, Graphic Design or related field. This candidate also must be able to adapt to changing priorities and able to juggle multiple responsibilities. The intern must be available nights and/or weekends for community events. The intern will also collaborate and work with a wide variety of different departments throughout their internship.

    The following duties and responsibilities are not meant to be all-inclusive and may be adjusted to meet business needs.


    – Event planning and management (parades, pow wow, PIIC 5k, community gatherings)
    – Write and create content for Prairie Island Communication channels (Community newsletter, Smoke Signals employee newsletter, website)
    – Photograph and take video of events
    – Assist with digital asset management
    – Assist with mailings
    – Assist with administrative communications work
