    Veterinary Technician Job Description

    Job Duties/Responsibilities:
    • Assist in animal handling/restraint during examinations, treatments, and procedures. Ensure safety and wellbeing of hospitalized patients which may require administration of treatments, reactions to medications, medical record keeping, feeding, bathing, etc. Also close monitoring of patients heart rate, respirations, and temperature before, during, and after procedures.

    • Assist veterinarians in various medical procedures including administration of medications/vaccinations, taking/analyzing samples (blood, urine, feces, etc), and performing diagnostics tests such as x-rays, ultrasound, CT. Assist in surgery via monitoring of anesthesia, IV catheter placement, sterilization of equipment.

    • Maintain accurate medical records via documentation of all client interactions, medical history of animals, treatment plans, and any vital information obtained during visits. Will also assist in billing and scheduling appointments.

    • Educate and communicate with pet owners about various topics. This may include but are not limited to vaccinations, medications, post op care, nutrition, alternative modalities (we will train), etc.

    • Collect, prepare, and perform lab testing. Maintain and operate lab equipment.

    • Restrain and ensure proper positioning of animals for radiographs in a safe manner.

    • Maintain and sterilize medical equipment such as surgical instruments, anesthesia machines, dental machines, and others. Manage inventory by ordering and restocking medical supplies/medications.

    Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to handle basic physical requirements to properly and safely restrain animals
