    Job Description

    As a Specialist for the Engineering Lab you will be responsible for material properties testing of pipes/fittings and maintaining/running various instruments. You would be responsible for ensuring daily tasks get performed such as instrument calibration checks, maintenance checks, and performing an assortment of standard tests. Experience with materials science and/or engineering is required.

    Responsibilities

    Principal Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
    • Perform laboratory procedures by following proscribed processes to achieve results that meet accreditation and policy requirements.
    • Perform laboratory procedures with and without supervision.
    • Perform maintenance on laboratory equipment and train technicians to perform maintenance.
    • Ensure testing efforts are completed in a timely manner.
    • Coordinate outsourcing of engineering samples to subcontract facilities.
    • Schedule sample preparation to meet needs of laboratory and client.
    • Maintain instruments and equipment in proper operating condition and keep necessary documentation.
    • Assure adherence to all safety and health policies and procedures.
    • Assure the accuracy of daily results including its accurate transcription into pertinent project files.
    • Assure corporate and laboratory QA/QC programs are met.
    • Coordinate calibrations and maintenance as needed for the various instruments.
    • Perform other duties as requested.
    Qualifications
    • Associates Degree in Materials Science, Engineering or equivalent.
    • 1-3 Minimum Years of Experience.
    • Experience working with technical instrumentation such as FTIR, DSC, microscopes, etc.
    • Knowledge of laboratory skills; ability to document data in lab worksheets.
    • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must have strong PC software skills.
    • Perform laboratory procedures with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to follow quality requirements.
    Experience with basic tools.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Materials Science, Engineering or equivalent.
    • Familiarity with ISO17025 Quality Systems and ASTM and ISO Test Methods and Standards.
    • Experience working with failure analysis.
    • Knowledgeable in engineering, troubleshooting, and someone with a mechanical aptitude.
    • Knowledgeable in technology and computers: logging data and recording data.
