    Descriptions/Goals

    Under the general supervision of the associate vice president for academic affairs, this position directs the operation, policy-making, and development of career services for students and alumni.

    Career services focuses on providing counseling and assistance concerning career and vocational decisions, along with administering cooperative education programming. This is a 12-month, full-time, exempt position.
    Responsibilities
    Career services
    Provides individual and group career counseling.
    Administers and interprets vocational interest inventories.
    Teaches one section of First Year Experience each fall semester.
    Provides career-related seminars for interested students.
    Maintains an up-to-date career resources library.
    Maintains resumes for participating students and alumni and placement credentials for those in the field of education.
    Produces and directs an annual career information exchange program and a student-teacher interview fair.
    Conducts the annual graduate employment survey.
    Maintains, posts, and/or distributes information concerning full and part-time jobs.
    Serves as a member of the admissions and petitions committee.
    Maintains membership and active involvement in professional organizations.

    Reviews and updates annually all career services publications including the career guide, career services brochure, credential file forms, forms, and graduate survey.

    Establishes office policies and procedures, prepares regular reports, and collects and analyzes research data relevant to the career planning and placement of students and alumni.

    Assists in the development of a budget, supervises expenditures, and maintains fiscal responsibility.
    Supervises graduate interns and work-study staff.
    Ability to work very limited evening and weekend hours as necessary.
    Performs related duties as required.
    Qualifications
    Education
    Master's degree in student personnel services, counseling and guidance, or a discipline whose preparation is suitable for this position.
    Experience

    At least three years of professional experience in a university/college or school setting or business in a human resources or training and development function is required.

    Full-time experience on a college/university student services staff is preferred.

    Important knowledge and capabilities necessary include career-counseling techniques, knowledge of job trends and career development skills, effective public relations and networking abilities, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    An understanding of the principles of college student development and the policies and structure of a typical four-year, public university is preferred.
