    The Department of Revenue is offering an opportunity for an Unclaimed Property Desk Examiner (ETE2) position within the Taxpayer Account Administration (TAA) division in Tumwater, WA. Join our team and make a difference!

    Taxpayer Account Administration (TAA) oversees the state's Unclaimed Property Program, ensuring compliance with regulations and returning unclaimed property to rightful owners. This role involves working with supportive teams that encourage idea sharing, problem-solving, and continuous improvement in customer service. Expect to get work done accurately, efficiently, share new ideas, and be kind.

    Duties

    The Unclaimed Property program currently holds over $1.8 billion in assets waiting to be reunited with their owners. As an Unclaimed Property Desk Examiner (ETE2), your main responsibility is to reconcile stock and dividend holder reports, conduct examinations, and educate businesses on transferring shares and reporting unclaimed property. Additional duties include:

    • Reconciling reports with securities and mutual funds
    • Reviewing online brokerage accounts
    • Educating businesses on compliance with unclaimed property laws
    • Reviewing self-audit requests
    • Updating business data and accounts
    • Preparing annual reporting reminders
    • Following safe deposit box procedures

    Qualifications

    To qualify, you should have one year of experience as an Excise Tax Examiner 1 OR a bachelor's degree in business or public administration with one year of professional experience in accounting, auditing, financial planning, banking, estate law, or finance. Candidates must demonstrate intermediate-level competencies in clear written communication and understanding of unclaimed property.
