Job summary
The Substation Construction Manager oversees on-site construction activities for electrical substation projects ensuring work is executed safely, in compliance with design and utility standards, and delivered on schedule and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day field construction activities for substation projects (greenfield, brownfield, expansions, upgrades)
- Supervise site superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and craft labor
- Develop and execute construction work plans sequencing manpower plans Coordinate outage schedules tie-ins with utilities system operators Champion zero-incident safety culture across all project sites Enforce site-specific safety plans JHAs company safety policies Ensure compliance OSHA NESC NFPA 70E conduct toolbox talks safety audits incident investigations Drive adherence project schedule milestone dates Monitor labor productivity equipment utilization material availability Identify mitigate construction risks schedule impacts Ensure construction meets approved drawings specifications standards Coordinate inspections testing quality documentation Resolve field conflicts constructability issues non-conformances Interface engineering teams constructability reviews RFIs Coordinate material deliveries transformers breakers steel control buildings Support commissioning testing energization activities Serve primary on-site representative clients utility personnel Participate progress meetings provide field updates Coordinate AHJs inspectors third-party owners engineers Track field costs labor hours equipment usage Support change management time-and-material work daily reports Assist punch list completion project closeout
