PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Provides guidance, instruction, and training to a team of three within the Pre-Press and Printing Plate operations responsible for all pre-press / pre-flight production activities for custom, retail paperboard packaging (folding cartons). Prioritizes and allocates work assignments to the Pre-press & Graphics team responsible for fully preparing customer art files to go to production line, while ensuring overall productivity, quality standards, deadlines and customer specifications are achieved. Collaborates closely with internal customers in Customer Service, Structural Design, Sales and Print Department to help plan, organize and oversee workflow production deadliness and meet customer needs.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:

• Assess, plan and schedule jobs according to customer needs and the production schedule and effectively communicate to all team members.
• Actively collaborate and serve as point of contact with the Sales, Customer Service, Structural Design and Production teams to ensure seamless execution of customer requests on time and within budget.
• Delegate and prioritize work assignments for self and for team to ensure customer art files are prepared and print ready for production within the scheduled deadline and customer specifications in accordance with quality standards and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Onboard and train Pre-Press Specialists on all technical and non-technical procedures of the job including software, file transmission process, proofing, quality control, equipment calibration, design requests, ordering dies and other tasks and/or workflows to drive and maintain quality standards and maximize efficiencies; develop and incorporate new or changing standard operating procedures (SOP's).
• Continuously offers ongoing coaching and feedback to Pre-press Specialist and training for new systems or procedures.
• Consistently communicate all customer specifications, changes in project scope, schedule, and costs with all stakeholders.
• Consistently seek opportunities to improve processes, procedures and automation that will positively impact productivity, accuracy and overall quality to better serve our customers; work with the team to present new ideas and improvements to Supervisor.
• Actively research current industry trends, new product innovations and modern technologies that will better improve support to SCT customers and enable the team to provide distinctive service.
• Partner with Manager to develop and drive departmental metrics or Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and accountability measures in regard to Pre-press Operations.
• Involve Pre-ress team members in opportunities to participate in creative design solutions and innovation.
• Engage and constructively challenge team members through continuous learning, development and coaching while offering opportunities to acquire new skills, collaborate with other teams, and participate on special projects
• Partner directly with customers, as needed, as an additional resource to Sales and Customer Service to ensure that structural design and artwork requirements are being met.
• Coordinate administrative needs of the team such as ensuring proper maintenance of equipment, maintaining software licenses/certifications, and ordering supplies; assist Print Manager with responsibilities such as interviewing, providing input on performance reviews, and implementing corrective actions to ensure compliance with quality and safety procedures, etc.

AUTHORITY: Must have the ability to lead a crew to execute the demands of the pre-press operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from his/her supervisor and other written instructions

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 5+ years experience in Pre-Press production and Print Operations; 2-year or 4 year Technical / Vocational Degree in related field is a plus; experience in paperboard packaging and/or folding carton industry is highly preferred; Requires knowledge of color separations, trapping, imposition, and other pre-press procedures specific to packaging. Familiarity with different types of printing presses, offset and digital, and their capabilities is a plus; experience as a senior operator or with leading processes / people is preferred. Requires solid proficiency with MAC systems and graphics software such as Illustrator and Photoshop; familiarity with Esko Automation Products (Webcenter) is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand complex documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, and communicate in English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read measurements. Use formulas to calculate and analyze data.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, reach with arms and hands. Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds. A person must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with any applicable breaks during day) on a regular basis. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Normal office environment, however, frequent trips into plant where you must be able to safely encounter an environment around moving machinery and equipment, loud noise, heat, fumes and paper dust.
