Description
Position Summary:
The Patient Services Representative in the ASC performs business office functions related to patient visits in the areas of front desk patient reception/registration and accounts receivable (billing and insurance).
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Answer incoming telephone calls in a pleasant manner and dispatches appropriately
Prepare medical records accurately for upcoming appointments
Greet & register patients at reception desk
Answer billing and insurance questions
Collect/verify/maintain patient demographic and insurance information held in computer system
Post charges and personal payments in computer system, including batch mail
Research various patient services and make sure the service is billed on the correct patients' account
Ability to respond to both external and internal customer's needs in a timely manner
Submit appropriate claims electronically through the computer system
Research and resolve unprocessed claims
Review and research payment reductions and claim denials and resubmits claims with additional information or corrections as needed
Post insurance and patient payments to accounts through the computer system
Transfer balances to secondary payer or patient pay status as appropriate
Maintain accounts receivable for insurance
Assist with insurance and billing-related calls from patients and resolves any questions, problems or requests
Respond to mail inquiries regarding insurance accounts
Run balancing reports and verifies totals with actual charges and receipts
Prepare daily bank deposits
Order office supplies for the ASC
Mail customer statements bi-monthly
Review outstanding accounts and forward to collections as needed
Manages ASC state reports quarterly
Other duties as assigned
Work Relationship and Scope:
The Patient Services Representatives - ASC works closely with all staff and doctors; reporting to the Clinical Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High school diploma is required
Two years of patient services/customer service experience; experience within a healthcare billing/insurance environment is preferred
Demonstrates knowledge of proper, safe, efficient usage of office equipment, computers, and software; working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Continuing education in customer service and business office skills desirable
Excellent customer service and communication skills both verbally and written
Accuracy in performing job duties in a timely and efficient manner
Adapts well to change and is open to new ideas and lean initiatives
Ability to multi-task and respond to patients and clinic needs in an efficient manner
Ability to work in a team environment and help others as necessary
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a fast-paced medical setting
Ability to work in a fast-paced medical facility while adhering to HIPAA compliance regulations
Must be flexible for changing job requirements
Work Conditions:
Work is generally performed at the main clinic; 800 N. First Street, Wausau, WI. Hours of work will be dependent on the needs of the Clinic. Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting (30 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs is required.
