- Provides senior-level guidance on Air Force engineering and technical management to support AFRL/RQ CE leadership in the areas of (1) airworthiness, (2) systems engineering, (3) development of aerospace systems or technologies and (4) program management.
- Provides technical support and advice to the RQ Chief Engineer, oversees the technical activities of the organization to include mentoring, and will need to balance multiple, technically diverse issues and taskings at one time.
- Supports development of strategy, goals, and policy as well as its execution for the organization's areas of responsibility and ensures directorate remains compliant with AFRL and higher headquarters SE and other engineering policies.
- Works closely with a variety of persons and groups across AFRL/RQ, other Division Chief Engineers, and other government department/agency officials, as well as industry and academia.
- Establishes and maintains working partnerships with end users and system managers across the acquisition and sustainment enterprise to ensure directorate's technology development efforts are informed by the right requirements to enable the best possible technology transition success.

The Air Force Research Laboratory's Aerospace Systems Directorate (AFRL/RQ) is a system integration directorate that explores new concepts and capabilities built on advances in engines, power, control systems, autonomy, aerodynamics, airframes, and rockets. It also partners with other AFRL directorates to incorporate additional technologies under development to produce Air Force capabilities. The S&T Deputy Chief Engineer supports the S&T Chief Engineer (CE) in advising the TD Director and the entire directorate on systems engineering (SE) and program management (PM) matters. Develops, improves, and implements tailored SE, PM, processes, policies, practices, tools, and training across the directorate to ensure successful S&T execution, with oversight from the CE. Keeps abreast of the latest SE and technology developments in government, industry and academia through networking and literature searches.
