    JOB SUMMARY:

    Provide cocktail and food service for patrons of the bar, and attending to the needs of guests in a friendly and professional manner.


    UNIQUE JOB REQUIREMENTS:
    Able to work flexible shifts including weekends, evenings and holidays.

    Must obtain a CA Food Handler card within 30 days of hire, or show proof of existing CA Food Handler card.

    Must be knowledgeable of California laws regarding selling/serving alcoholic beverages, and able to ascertain when it is appropriate to decline service to obviously intoxicated customers.

    Must attend LEAD training through the Santa Cruz Police Department and the ABC Training through the Santa Cruz Seaside Company.

    JOB TASKS (in order of importance):


    • Gather Information regarding event time, place and beverage requirements.
    • Mixes and serves beverages for guests according to their request or standard bar recipe.
    • Check on liquor, beer, wine, beverage supplies and paper products.
    • Make sure bar has money and keys are secured from supervisor.
    • Operate a cash register, take various readings, and ring tickets.
    • Maintains and balances cash bank at beginning and end of each shift.
    • Maintain inventory and stock and restock bar.
    • Perform side work as required.
    • Assist in setting up cocktail area with linen and candles.
    • Follow master charge and house charge policies.
    • Monitor alcoholic consumption of guests and report problems to manager.
    • Has authority and responsibility not to serve alcohol to minors and intoxicated persons.
    • May need to assist in bussing glassware at tables, clean up spills, and wash glassware.
    • Perform opening and closing duties.
    • Resolve problem situations with staff and customers if able.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    Must be at least 21 years old. 6 months minimum bartender experience.

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/


    ABILITIES:

    • Ability to meet and greet people in a positive and friendly manner.
    • Ability to quickly perform cash and credit transactions, and operate a cash register.
    • Full knowledge of drink recipes and proper glassware.
    • Ability to memorize drink orders and prepare in the proper order.
    • Ability to "free-pour" alcoholic beverages.
    • Knowledge of A.B.C. and California laws regarding proper I.D. and sale of alcohol.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks with constant interruptions in a noisy environment.
    • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
    • Ability to obtain CA Food Handler card within 30 days of hire.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Ability to walk and stand for up to 7 and one-half hours, and to work in a confined space with limited access.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist height.
    • Ability to see, read, write and interpret documents and paperwork in English.
    • Ability to hear normal conversations on the phone and in person.
