Job Duties
The Department of Engineering programs and functions support the University's mission by welcoming and extending Department resources to all who strive for academic excellence, whatever their national, racial, ethnic or religious affiliation. Department programs and courses provide particular support for Mission principles concerned with teaching and scholarship in the disciplines of computer science, computer engineering, and manufacturing engineering, globally oriented studies, and students who are diversely prepared for employment in industry and/or graduate and professional schools.
The faculty in this position is responsible for the delivery of instruction to students and to engage in professional activities primarily related to effective teaching, research in the discipline, and significant service to students, the University, the profession, the community, and humankind at large.
Job duties:

The position will have a start date of Fall 2026.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated knowledge of a field including current developments in the teaching and research discipline housed in the department, with emphasis on the particular program.
- Demonstrated ability to perform continuous program improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective curriculum materials.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and effectively present course work.
- Demonstrated ability to elicit student interest.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute generally to student academic progress in a significant way.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and organize the classroom environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement assessment activities.
- Demonstrated established research activities in emerging computer engineering areas including quantum engineering, embedded systems, cybersecurity, AI engineering, and sensor networks.
- Demonstrated ability to establish externally funded applications-based research.
- Demonstrated knowledge of a field including current developments in the teaching and research discipline housed in the department, with emphasis on the particular program.
*Virginia State University requires that faculty be appropriately credentialed to teach assigned courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. VSU demonstrates compliance with its Faculty Credentialing Policy #2301 for all applicable education, experience, licensure and certification requirements in the selection and hiring of its faculty.
Additional Considerations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
