    POSITION TITLE: Senior Software Engineer

    POSITION LOCATION: San Carlos, CA, Austin, TX, or Remote, USA

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Production Bioinformatics Engineering team at Natera builds and maintains analytical bioinformatics pipeline systems to reliably translate raw genomic data into clinically actionable insights for a global patient population. We optimize development velocity across R&D and Engineering. We deliver high quality, reliable, compliant production bioinformatics pipelines and associated infrastructure with global reach and scale.

    The team seeks a data-focused software engineer to develop new and refine existing bioinformatics data ETL pipelines with global impact and tremendous scale. In this role you will work as an integral part of a globally distributed development team collaborating closely with R&D and other engineering groups to develop data infrastructure systems to help with the development of genomics products. You will also work closely with stakeholders to define product requirements and translate requirements to corresponding software designs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Architect, develop, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to support various data analytics and reporting needs
    • Collaborate closely with various stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into efficient technical solutions
    • Optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing mechanisms for performance and scalability across different use cases
    • Implement robust data quality checks and monitoring to ensure data integrity and reliability of various distributed applications
    • Implement and manage access control mechanisms to ensure data security and compliance with regulatory requirements
    • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional growth and development
    • Participate in architectural discussions, code reviews, technical documentation effort, and architecture planning sessions
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field
    • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on data engineering
    • AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect, Data Engineer, etc.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
    • Data modeling and database technologies (relational and non-relational)
    • SQL and either Python or Java
    • AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, Glue, Batch, Firehose, IAM, and CloudWatch
    • Security principles and data privacy standards and protocols (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, FDA Regulations, etc.)
    • Containerization and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes
    • Prior exposure to regulated industries, preferably healthcare
    The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
