- Prepares distributes and dispenses medications or supervises drug distribution activities specific for oncology patients ranging in age from pediatric through elderly adults.
- Maintains regulatory compliance with the State Board of Pharmacy and accrediting agencies.
- Complies with Chapters USP 797 and USP 800.
- Monitors operation to ensure accurate and complete labeling of drugs distributed from facilities; maintains records of transactions to assure control and accountability for all drugs.
- Ensures pharmacy records and patient information are maintained in confidential manner.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of the oncology pharmacist profession through relevant CE and by reading current literature.
- Acts as drug consultant to support services and ancillary departments.
- Initiates schedules and directs day-to-day operations of the department and coordinates with other staff in establishing checks and quality controls to ensure quality of care.
- Schedules employees' work, communicates, interprets and discusses hospital/clinic and departmental objectives, work methods and performance standards with employees.
- Participates in training new personnel.

Oncology Pharmacists ensure safety in compounding, preparing, and dispensing chemotherapy along with minimizing drug waste, managing drug shortages, and decreasing exposure to hazardous drugs. The Pharmacist will work along the Oncology Team to provide patient services such as patient education, monitoring adverse drug events, and evaluation of drug-drug, drug-disease interactions, and providing supportive care services. As a part of the Oncology Team, pharmacists can also be asked to take part in the decision-making process on chemotherapy formulary management, treatment protocols, compliance with regulations, and improvement of patient outcomes.
Physical Requirements
Primarily Works in a well-lighted and air-conditioned environment with period of heavy workload and stress. This role may include working in less-than-ideal home conditions, which can include exposure to extreme temperatures and environments that may not meet typical cleanliness standards such as clutter, unkept surfaces, and homes with pets. Works in various conditions.

Computer Knowledge & Electronic Equipment Use: Demonstrates ability to consistently utilize electronic equipment and online computer programs to perform job duties, including electronic documentation, and order entry.
Resource Utilization: Consistently utilizes and maintains supplies and equipment to minimize lost charges and unnecessary equipment repair-replacement.
Confidentiality: Adheres to established policies on privacy and security requirements for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as applicable by Shannon Policy.
