- Project Documentation: Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to understand project requirements and scope.
- Quantity Takeoffs: Perform quantity takeoffs for various project components, including excavation, concrete, steel, marine structures, and other materials.
- Cost Analysis: Assist in analyzing project costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing, to develop comprehensive project estimates.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Communication: Solicit quotes and bids from vendors and subcontractors, ensuring timely and competitive pricing for project components and services.
- Estimating Software: Utilize estimating software and tools to organize project data, calculate costs, and generate accurate bid proposals.
- Bid Preparation: Support the preparation of bid packages, including cost breakdowns, proposals, and supporting documentation, for submission to clients and stakeholders.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure alignment between project requirements and cost estimates.
- Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and material pricing fluctuations to optimize estimating practices and enhance competitiveness.
- Continuous Learning: Proactively seek opportunities for professional development and growth, including attending training sessions, workshops, and industry events.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of one internship or 6-12 months of working experience with a heavy construction contractor, preferably in estimating or related roles.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other estimating software/tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Familiarity with coastal and marine construction practices and terminology is a plus.
