    JOB SUMMARY

    The incumbent will be Responsible for overseeing daily lab operations, maintaining supplies, reporting quality control, scheduling and evaluating employees.

    This position will provide direct supervision to technologists, technicians, technical assistants, and phlebotomists to include workload assignments, training, resolution of technical problems, staffing, scheduling, counseling, and other disciplinary measures. Orders supplies, reviews quality control records and maintains workload statistic data.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Accountable for policies and procedures of the department and organization.
    • Serves as a role model for ethical management behavior and promotes an awareness and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the mission.
    • Ensure laboratory is compliant with corporate, state and federal regulatory requirements related to personnel safety and quality of laboratory testing as well as professional conduct.
    • Assist with developing and implementing laboratory procedures and installation of equipment and methods.
    • Maintain technical knowledge in the assigned department(s) for the laboratory testing.
    • Supervises various laboratory employees overseeing their training and establishment/maintenance of competency levels.
    • Performs timely employee performance evaluations and counseling when appropriate. Is an integral part of the interview process and provides the Director with input relating to hiring and termination. Routinely communicates new initiatives and policies to employees.
    • Routinely supervises various laboratory processes including technical, non-technical, pre-analytical, post-analytical and processes involving the laboratory information system.
    • Performs or oversees various administrative functions as delegated by the Director. Such functions may include maintaining appropriate inventory levels, staffing levels and payroll.
    • Ensures that resources are used appropriately, and maximum efficiency is achieved. Frequently represents laboratory management with or on behalf of the Director with physicians, patients and other departments.
    Qualifications

    REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum of two years as a bench technologist and 3 years Management/Supervisory experience, required.
    • Medical Laboratory Certification is required.
      • Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT, MLS, CLT, CLS) by the Board of Registry as ASCP, AMT, AAB,NCA, HHS certification
    • State of Texas license maintained in good standing is required.
    • An active BLS certification is required.
    • Must have Management/Supervisor experience.
    EDUCATION

    High School Diploma or GED

    Bachelors Degree preferred

    CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE

    Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT, MLS, CLT, CLS) by the Board of Registry as ASCP, AMT, AAB, NCA, HHS certification

    KNOWLEDGE SKILS AND ABILITIES
    • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures.
    • Proven success in training and developing both technical and non-technical employees.
    • Ability to problem solve and provide solutions under minimal supervision.
    • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office.
    • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal.
    • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
    • Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment.
    • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.
