As a Principal Packaging Acquisition Engineer, you will independently (or as part of a team) develop, direct, and execute plans for major segments of complex projects. You will evaluate technical data and apply innovative approaches to establish specifications, improve processes, and integrate packaging strategies across the organization.
This is a highly cross-functional role involving engineering, supply chain, quality, and external partners, with a focus on supporting acquisition-related integration activities and long-term packaging excellence.
Work model, sponsorship:
At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in our local office at least three days per week. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time.
Your responsibilities will include:
● Lead project teams across acquisition integration activities including due diligence, gap analysis, packaging strategy, documentation, and testing
● Align packaging integration milestones with broader program timelines through proactive, clear communication
● Identify packaging integration risks and develop mitigation plans
● Execute complex engineering work in packaging/product design and development, including material evaluation, process studies, and research initiatives
● Incorporate new technologies and innovation while applying core engineering principles
● Manage packaging component lifecycle: documentation (DMR), part creation, and sourcing coordination
● Design and coordinate studies to resolve packaging-related challenges; analyze root cause and recommend improvements
● Evaluate alternative engineering processes, products, and packaging equipment for feasibility and impact
● Review and manage packaging verification and validation data in compliance with quality systems and risk management
● Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and acquired sites to ensure aligned, practical packaging strategies
● Provide mentorship to interns or technicians, as applicable
● Incorporate business policies, customer and clinical needs, and foresight of emerging technology trends into packaging strategy
● Support ongoing achievement of operational, program, and business objectives; recommend improvements where applicable
Required qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Mechanical, Materials, Electromechanical, Industrial Maintenance, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering
● Minimum of 5 years' experience in an engineering role related to packaging development or manufacturing
● Proven ability to apply quality system requirements including design inputs/outputs, verification/validation, and process validation
● Strong experience developing technical documentation such as DMRs, specifications, protocols, and reports
● Working knowledge of packaging design, materials, or equipment in medical or industrial applications
● Ability to travel (domestic and international) at varying frequencies, ranging from 5%–30%, based on acquisition projects
Preferred qualifications:
● Experience with acquisition-related manufacturing and/or distribution integration
● Familiarity with systems such as PLM, BMRAM, MES, SAP, S4, GLS, or Bartender
● Demonstrated ability to mentor and support integration of acquired entities
● Strong organizational skills with experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities
● Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
● Effective communication and collaboration skills across functions and levels
● High integrity and professionalism with ability to establish cross-functional credibility
● Intermediate knowledge of packaging materials and equipment (e.g., paperboard, corrugated, flexible films, Tyvek, thermoformed trays, injection-molded parts)
