    Position Summary

    The University of New Mexico College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences (UL&LS) seeks motivated and highly engaged student employees interested in a southwestern history. The University Archives is a unit in the Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections. The University Archives is looking for a student to work on arranging and describing archival collections related to the history of UNM.The student will also create finding aids for the collections in ArchivesSpace to go online in the New Mexico Archives Online (NMAO).Other duties may include accessioning incoming materials, conducting appraisals on unprocessed collections, and assisting with answering reference inquiries.

    Under direct supervision, Library Assistants work with the University Archivist to:
    • Review, process, and describe archival collections.
    • Create finding aids in ArchivesSpace to go online for researchers to use.
    • Take necessary steps to preserve the materials with special housing, as necessary.
    • Participate in special projects as assigned
    Successful applicants will have the opportunity for progressively independent work and increased responsibility. Benefits of this position include: learning research skills that support college academic work; understanding how archival collections are created and made available for research; and developing professional skills such as interpersonal communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Applicants must be capable of working within a team environment. All student employees of the CSWR must work between 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. All UL&LS student employees are employed on a term basis for the current/impending school year.     Minimum Qualifications

    Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

    • Currently enrolled at UNM for a minimum of 6 credit hours during the normal school year.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively.
