Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment.
Displays technical expertise necessary to ensure timely and accurate results of laboratory procedures.
Ensure specimens are obtained and processed in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols.
Exhibits problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and evaluate critical laboratory results.
Participates in the training/mentoring of new employees, students or interns including lectures and bench techniques.
Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
Responsible for other duties as assigned.
Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills.
Promotes consensus building and applies techniques of conflict resolution and conduct improvement.
Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient.
Promotes service excellence and growth of the laboratory.
Performs laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.
Assists with hiring and training new staff members
Ensures department documentation is complaint with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
Ensures the department is in working order as assigned.
Performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation.
Leads and participates in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training, proficiency testing and staff scheduling when assigned.
QualificationsJob Requirements:
Baccalaureate Degree OR Associates Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science.
Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles
ASCP or equivalent
Certification within a specific area, i.e. M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP) qualifies.
Certification must be maintained without lapse during employment.
If certification does lapse, job will be downgraded to Medical Laboratory Scientist (non-certified) until certification is reinstated:
~ Three (3) years of clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Lab Tech within a clinical laboratory.

~ Five (5) years clinical laboratory experience
