- Graduation from a school of professional nursing.

5 West is a 15-bed unit dedicated to caring for abdominal transplant, urology and plastic surgery patients. Our patient care team delivers highly specialized cutting-edge care. Each year, we perform over 125 kidney, pancreas, and liver transplants. Our transplant program is certified by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and is one of the most accomplished and devoted transplant teams in the region. The Kidney Transplant Team was recently named number one in the United States for one-year survival rates. We strive to improve clinical outcomes through an interprofessional approach of education, research, and clinical medicine.
5 West is the inpatient home for the nationally ranked UNC Urology department partnering with the physicians to deliver individualized care in a coordinated and compassionate manner.
In addition to urology and abdominal transplant, our staff cares for high-risk plastic surgery patients requiring reconstructive grafts and surgery related to tissue injuries.
These patients have complex wound management needs, which our expert staff manages.This unit has also received the Beacon Award for Excellence designated by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) . The AACN created the Beacon designation to recognize individual units that have set a path to excellence in an effort to highlight critical care units that distinguish themselves in every facet of patient care. Recipients of a Beacon designation demonstrate excellence in sustained unit performance and patient outcomes.
This is a 30 hour/week position, with shift variability opportunities, including day shifts, rotating, or straight night shifts available. This position qualifies for an extensive benefit package.
