    Jefferson County Schools, located in Birmingham, AL, is dedicated to providing a quality education to all students. We are currently seeking passionate and dedicated Special Education Teachers to join our team for the school year. With multiple needs across our district, we have openings primarily at the elementary level, broken into K-2 and 3-5th grade bands, in self-contained classrooms for students with Developmentally Delayed (DD) or Intellectually Delayed (ID) caseloads.

    Position Overview:
    We are seeking full-time Special Education Teachers to work in self-contained classrooms at various elementary schools within our district. The teachers will be responsible for providing instruction, support, and individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with DD or ID caseloads. These positions offer the opportunity to work in a supportive and collaborative environment, making a meaningful impact on the lives of our students.

    Open Positions:

    • Special Education Teachers (SPED) - 31 positions available
    • Primarily elementary needs, broken into K-2 and 3-5th grade bands
    • All positions are self-contained classrooms for DD or ID caseloads

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
    • Provide direct instruction and support to students in self-contained classrooms
    • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents
    • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed
    • Participate in IEP meetings and maintain compliance with state and federal regulations

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education
    • Alabama state teaching license with SPED endorsement
    • Previous experience working in a self-contained or special education setting is a plus
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
