The primary objective of this position is implementing strategy and leading development and engagement efforts for Pillsbury House + Theatre (PH+T) and Pillsbury Creative Commons (PCC).
This person reports to the Artistic Producing Director/Senior Director of Arts and Culture and is responsible for building relationships, designing communication and engagement strategies, and developing diverse resources to support the programs, projects, operations and growth of PH+T/PCC.
The Audience Development Director will help create, direct and implement plans, messaging and relationships to secure earned, contributed and government resources for PH+T programs, operations and initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of non-profit leadership/communications/development experience; ability to design, implement and deliver complex, long-term plans on time and on budget; and facility initiating, building and maintaining positive, productive relationships among diverse individuals and groups.
Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions)Strategy and Thought Leadership
Provide subject matter expertise in external relations, communications, donor cultivation, and audience development for arts organizations
Set priorities and develop a clear vision and direction for arts specific communications/promotional materials targeted to specific audiences and community stakeholders of PH+T/PCC
Identify key PH+T/PCC champions/stakeholders/supporters, build and maintain productive relationships
Lead strategic innovation and build a network of arts and community partnerships to support Pillsbury Creative Commons programs
Demonstrate thought leadership internally and externally within the arts ecosystem
Broaden awareness of diverse resource streams (individual, foundation, corporation, government) and cultivate access to those streams for PH+T/PCC initiatives
Operations and Outcomes
Analyze data, trends, & needs to create strategic arts communications and development plans
Assess and report impact to inform strategic communications aimed at a range of audiences
Define goals, then track and monitor relationship building and resource development campaigns and progress toward goals
Create processes and systems to drive positive change for PH+T/PCC growth
Ensure high-quality production of arts related communications/promotions/development materials
People and Community Development
Facilitate relationships between PH+T/PCC people, departments and organizations - internally and externally
Identify key stakeholders, build and maintain a network of relationships to support PH+T/PCC activities, programs, operations and growth objectives
Model a creative, equitable and inclusive culture
Inspire positive action among stakeholders
Cultivate relationships with key community stakeholders to foster greater accessibility to and within the arts and programs of PH+T/PCC
Lead and motivate staff, interns, volunteers, and contractors as dictated by the needs of specific initiatives and campaigns
Financial Management
Help develop and manage the annual PH+T/PCC budget as well as specific project/capital/program budgets
Manage budget for complex arts development and communications program areas, initiatives and projects
Steward and solicit arts funders, partners and champions
Identify and solicit new income/resources to meet or exceed annual theatre revenue targets as well as special project targets
Required Skills/Experience
Experience developing contributed as well as earned resources in a non-profit arts environment
Experience leading the design and production of communications/promotional strategies and materials that motivate target arts audiences to participate/engage/give/champion
Able to build and maintain a broad network of professional relationships among corporate, nonprofit, government and philanthropic program officers/leaders/influencers particularly in the arts ecosystem
Able to build positive, productive, culturally responsive relationships with community
Demonstrated facility in working productively and generatively in under resourced neighborhoods with diverse populations
Understanding and active demonstration of appropriate personal boundaries and professional ethics
Ability to work a flexible schedule that will include evenings and weekends
Self-motivating with excellent time management, follow-through and accountability skills
