    Job Description

    A position as a Chemist and Chemical Engineer in the Reactor Plant Chemistry team is for you if you have a desire to help the world's best Naval fleet and are interested in a dynamic work environment while learning how the reactor plants operates.

    This position is for a fleet support engineer to provide support of reactor plant chemistry and cleanliness issues across the entire nuclear fleet. In this role you will:

    • Perform trials, tests, and/or experiments to support engineering, production, and/or R&D activities.
    • Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources such as experiments and studies.
    • Develop technically and economically sound recommendations and prepare comprehensive documented observations, analyses, and interpretations of results and establish operating equipment specifications.
    • Develop and recommend new processes and technologies to achieve cost effectiveness and improved product quality.

    Requirements

    To be eligible for this position, you must have a combination of knowledge and skill:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience;
    • Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); or SRE qualified and 6 years of experience.

    Preferred Skills

    The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, has an attention to detail, is able to evaluate data to draw conclusions about chemistry trends, and is able to multi-task within a fast-paced environment supporting the Navy.

    About Us

    The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.

    Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston.
