- Provides management oversight of dosimetry and treatment planning operations within the multiple Radiation Oncology departments
- Serves as liaison between dosimetry, physics, physicians, simulation therapists, staff therapists and other sections within the departments.
- Directly supervises the dosimetrists, to include scheduling, time off, evaluations, as well as major input into hiring and termination of dosimetry staff.
- Assigns workload appropriately and fairly to direct reports and ensures optimal productivity and quality is achieved from their work.
- Maintains the accuracy of all treatment parameters and prescription data in Record /Verify (R/V) system and consistently and accurately charges for procedures done and ensures the same in direct reports. Also serves as R/V super user for dosimetry, maintains and enforces data integrity, and ensures maximum utilization of application from direct reports.
- Develops policies and procedures pertaining to medical dosimetry and treatment planning services.
- Provides input on capital, staffing or operational budgetary needs to the Director and participates in the planning of such.
- Evaluates and makes recommendations for new software products impacting medical dosimetry and oversees implementation/staff training.
- Meets with direct reports regularly to discuss and problem solve issues related to dosimetry. Serves as point of contact for interdepartmental and extra-departmental issues. Serves and participates on committees as requested.
- Establishes dosimetry quality assurance and / or quality management programs, as needed.
- Promotes team approach when interacting with other staff members.
- Assists physicists with routine clinical tasks, as required.
- Participates in the teaching programs for physics and radiation therapy.
- Serves as the primary contact and oversees the dosimetry training program.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
- Performs the clinical functions of the staff medical dosimetry role up to 50% of the time.
- Bachelors Degree in Science/Physics or 10 years prior Medical Dosimetry experience
- Certification in Medical Dosimetry
- Associates Degree in Radiation Therapy Technology

The medical dosimetrist is responsible for the "radiation dose distributions and dose calculations" used in radiation therapy. Dosimetrists must have thorough knowledge in the areas of cancer treatment and brachytherapy.
The dosimetrist helps prescribe the radiation in precise doses necessary to treat the cancer without harming healthy tissue and organs near the tumor.
