    The Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute helps people with a spinal injury achieve their highest level of independence.

    Patients receive physical, occupational, speech/language and recreational therapy six days a week.

    Patients admitted to the inpatient portion of the Spinal Cord Injury Program must be able to actively participate in three or more hours of daily therapy.

    The Spinal Cord Injury Program places a strong emphasis on patient/caregiver education and is one of only two facilities in Maryland accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

    Clinical Nurse II- Spinal Cord Unit

    Full Time - Night

    We are seeking a full-time Registered Nurse to join our nursing team at University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute.

    Our patient population includes both adult and geriatric patients with the following diagnosis or treatments:
    # Post Orthopaedic surgery (total joints, foot/ankle, upper extremity, sports injuries)
    # Psychogenic versus epilepsy differential diagnosis
    # Medical observation from rehabilitation patient deterioration

    Provides and coordinates independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective and participative member of the interdisciplinary team.

    \Provides independent care to unit specific patient population; serves as clinical resource for others, utilizes and integrates evidence into practice, functions effectively in roles specific to unit (such as charge nurse, etc.).
    \Accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care.
    \Accountable to peers for the advancement of group practice on the unit, and to the nurse manager for the totality of work performance.
    collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs.

    Service/Quality:
    \Assists in team development and evaluation of patient care delivery; Participates in collection of data related to outcomes (e.g. hand offs, medication safety, etc).
    Participates in implementation efforts addressing nursing quality indicators.
    Participates and contributes to Performance Improvement, or Evidence Based Practice, or research at the unit level.
    Complies with standards and participates with unit level activities for TJC/CARF regulatory compliance.


    Unit Operations:
    \performs charge role for assigned shifts as needed.
    Assists in the development of clinical practice protocols and standards for the unit/hospital.
    Nursing Education and Practice Councils. Assists in development of action plans and supports implementation.
    Orients Clinical Nurse I to shared governance structure and councils.

    \Serves as preceptor, coach, mentor to new nurses and students. Contributes to development of unit based peer review processes; Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.
    One year nursing experience. Up-to-date status on all mandatory training and classes.
