    The Harris Center is the state-designated Local Mental Health Authority and Local Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) Authority serving Harris County, Texas. As the largest behavioral and developmental disability care center in Texas, The Harris Center provides a full continuum of services at 86 different sites across Harris County in more than 42 different languages as well as sign language in order to better serve our community.     About the Position

    The Medical Director of Training and Education will guide and elevate our medical education programs. In this transformative leadership role, you will need to be innovative and experienced as you serve as the primary supervisor for clinical rotations and cultivate strategic relationships with local residency programs and state funders. Your leadership, alongside the VP of Medical Mental Health Services and the Chief Medical Officer, will be key in shaping a new public psychiatric training track here at The Harris Center.

    This role is a blend of 60% direct patient care and 40% administrative leadership as you frequently travel among our outpatient clinics. Prior experience in site supervision and medical education will be key assets as you foster the growth of future mental health professionals.

    Objectives and Key Responsibilities

    • Advocate for the educational welfare and needs of residents and fellows
    • Administer programs in collaboration with Residency Training Directors and outpatient Practice Managers in line with The Harris Center's and ACGME's Institutional Requirements
    • Foster strong relationships with supervisors, residents, and mid-level providers
    • Assemble and oversee a medical education leadership structure
    • Develop educational goals and objectives for each level of training and rotation through didactic and clinical education across all program sites
    • Provide comprehensive patient care, including initial psychiatric assessments and medication management follow-ups
    • Provide clinical leadership to the treatment team and supervise residents in collaboration with nursing staff and interdisciplinary team for patient management

    Requirements

    • Graduate from an accredited Medical School and Psychiatric Residency Program
    • Board-Certified in General Psychiatry or equivalent
    • Licensed to practice medicine in State of Texas with valid Texas Medical License
    • Hold a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Controlled Substance Registration Certificate
    • Registered with Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP)
    • Familiarity with Texas HHSC Rules and Statutes, Medicaid Standards, and Texas Mental Health Code
    • Proficiency with DSM-V and standards of the American Psychiatric Association and American Child and Adolescent Association
    • Previous experience as a Faculty or Associate Program Director
    • Experience in Medical Education and supervising Psychiatry Residents
