Helps design and conducts research within a specified field, while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

Additional Details: The Emory University Department of Biomedical Informatics is recruiting for a post-doctorate in the area of computer vision, speech analysis, wearables, human activity recognition, and machine learning applied to conduct high-quality research with a particular focus on neuropsychiatric diseases. Those include, but are not limited to, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Autism, Schizophrenia, Depression, and so on.

Candidates are required to have a strong background in at least one of the following areas: Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Experience with large volumes of video, speech, or time-series sensor data analytics is essential; Experience with multi-person tracking systems is a strong plus; Experience with multi-view or distributed camera networks and 3D human pose or motion analysis is a strong plus; Any experience in machine learning on edge computing devices, such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and mobile/wearable devices is a strong plus. Any experience in multi-modal recognition systems is preferred; Experience with computing in cloud environments is preferred; Strong programming skills in Python and modern machine learning platforms are preferred; some experience with high-performance computing, server management, and database administration is desired but not required. A strong sense of responsibility to complete research in a timely manner is required.

The Department of Biomedical Informatics is a highly dynamic and multidisciplinary environment that has strengths in computational human behavior analysis, bioinformatics, global health informatics, imaging informatics, machine learning, mHealth informatics and signal processing.

You will be exposed to opportunities to work with renowned faculties in the field of machine learning and healthcare analysis. You will collaborate with multiple research teams in the Department of Biomedical Informatics having large teams (10+) of research professors, PostDocs, PhD, MS, and BS students, along with clinical researchers from the Neurology and Psychiatry. You may also have opportunities to teach in courses offered by the Department of Biomedical informatics. This will advance your academic career with strong mentorship and collaboration across schools and units.

The position will be for one year in the first instance but with a strong likelihood of continuing for several years, with career progression. Candidates for post doctorate positions are expected to work proactively, participate in research discussions, publish scholarly research papers, and disseminate research results.
