Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a Lead AI Solutions Engineer to be part of our DeNovo Innovation Incubator team. In this role, you will design and develop cutting-edge applications that harness generative AI, data intelligence, and legal process knowledge. Collaborating closely with partners, practice-group leaders, and data engineers, you will transform innovative ideas into impactful products that enhance the efficiency and client-centricity of legal work.

This is a dynamic, hands-on engineering position suited for someone who excels in the balance between creativity and practical delivery—transitioning from concept to executable code, from prototype to real-world application.

As a part of your typical day, you will:

• Design, develop, and deploy LLM-powered applications (e.g., Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, LangChain) integrating seamlessly with firm systems.
• Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, prompt-management frameworks, and secure APIs.
• Work in collaboration with practice-group leaders to create solutions that streamline matter intake, automate document creation, and enhance client collaboration.
• Translate legal and operational workflows into clean, maintainable code.
• Cooperate with IT and data teams to ensure systems are scalable, governed, and secure.
• Document engineering standards, mentor team members, and contribute to defining De Novo's engineering culture.

We invite you to apply if you possess:

• 7+ years of software development experience, with strong proficiency in Python, , or C#.
• Practical knowledge of Azure AI, OpenAI API, Bedrock, or Claude; familiarity with vector databases like Pinecone, FAISS, Azure AI Search.
• Experience with RAG architectures, prompt engineering, and model evaluation.
• A proven track record of integrating AI into enterprise systems (e.g., M365, NetDocuments, 3E).
• An adaptable mindset, thriving in rapid-prototyping environments with weekly iterations.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of relating technical concepts with both engineers and legal professionals.

This job description reflects the essential responsibilities of the position but is not intended to encompass all duties. The anticipated salary range for this position in Washington is $237,000 to $247,000, with actual compensation adjusted based on experience and qualifications.
