    Job Description:The Nebraska Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) supports over 35,000 participants monthly who have demonstrated financial and health needs related to nutrition.

    The Senior WIC Public Health Nutritionist (Public Health Nutritionist, SR H80452) works with 13 local agencies, and dozens of local clinics to ensure vulnerable Nebraskans can access WIC programming, breastfeeding education, and lactation support for the best start in life.


    Job Duties:
    The Senior WIC Public Health Nutritionist will -

    • Provide programmatic oversight via annual local agency monitoring evaluations and plan reviews to ensure program integrity and effectiveness.
    • Under limited supervision, assist state and local WIC staff in implementing outreach initiatives, including breastfeeding education and lactation support for program participants.
    • Coordinate and qualitatively evaluate programming to determine compliance with USDA regulations; analyze cost-effectiveness, review, and approve financial requests related to the program area.
    • Provide technical assistance and work guidance to others with operations related to WIC.
    • Plan and facilitate meetings with project stakeholders to complete grant initiatives.
    Hours will be 8:00am - 5:00pm Mon. thru Friday - some flexibility.


    REQUIREMENTS:

    Experience in

    clinical nutrition and/or community nutrition with responsibility for a particular program or region and experience with supervision or administration.

    Registration by the American Dietetics Association. Must be a Registered Dietitian in Nebraska.


    Preferred:
    Masters Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, Food Science, Public Health, Health Sciences, or similar. Certification as a CLC, IBCC, LNMT, and/or CHES. Knowledge of, or interest in, the WIC Program.


    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    Experience in:

    clinical nutrition and/or community nutrition with responsibility for a particular program or region and experience with supervision or administration.

    Registration by the American Dietetics Association.


    Knowledge of:
    WIC program - ; the principles and practices of program design the principles and practices of nutrition; the methods of dietary counseling and group education; the resources available for nutrition services; the strategies and techniques to obtain maximum benefit from nutrition services; federal rules and regulations which impact the delivery of nutrition services; the available funding mechanisms for the delivery of nutrition services; federal nutrition programs and the responsibilities for statewide nutrition programs assumed by state/local health agencies

    Ability to:

    communicate orally and in writing with health professionals and the public to exchange information and provide education, consultation, and guidance; interpret and evaluate technical articles relating to food and nutrition; interact with individuals from a variety of socioeconomic or ethnic backgrounds.
