- Is knowledgeable in correct EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results.
- Maintains the patients' safety through communication to other patient care support staff during EEG if needed.
- Continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPPA practices, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation and preparation for use.
- Performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation product allergies, movement restrictions and cognitive function.
- Knows and recognizes drug and physiologic status effects on activity monitored.
- Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and healthcare staff to convey the purpose of the EEG and answers questions regarding the procedure.
- Understands why and how to maintain correct electrode connections.
- Identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and elimination.
- Understands and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the EEG unit.
- Has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols and alternate equipment settings and their effects should be applied.
- Contacts supervisory staff as appropriate for problems within the EEG unit, stocks supplies, and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures.
