    Job Summary:

    The Paramedic in the Emergency Department (ED) functions as a member of the ED team and is responsible for providing patient care in collaboration with the Registered Nurse (RN), ED providers and other members of the ED team.

    The ED Paramedic performs procedures and tasks outlined and approved for paramedics by the North Carolina Office of EMS (NC OEMS) and the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NC BON).


    Minimum Requirements:
    High school diploma or equivalent. Current North Carolina EMT-P credential/certification. Two years of experience at the Paramedic level. Current AHA BLS certification.

    Current AHA ACLS and PALS certification or should be obtained within one year of employment or as classes are available.

    Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

    The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, and possess the ability to identify data reflective of the patient's status.

    The employee must be able to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed, as described in the unit's/areas/department's policies and procedures.
