    Description of Work

    This position serves as the Veterinarian in charge of the Arden Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory and is responsible for the supervision of daily operations of the laboratory. Direct supervision is given the veterinary diagnostician, medical technologists/technicians, processing assistants and veterinary laboratory assistants. This position is also responsible for performing complete gross post-mortem examinations on a variety of animal species. Rotation of necropsy duties with the veterinary diagnostician on every other weekend and alternating holiday basis, and on-call service is required. This position is responsible for establishing short- and long-range plans for the laboratory including future needs for personnel, facilities, equipment, and supplies. This position also involves active public contact including telephone consultation, client interviews and veterinary communications. This position will serve to represent the NCVDLS at various local and state meetings.

    To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
    • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of veterinary medicine.
    • Knowledge of North Carolina regulations pertaining to livestock and poultry.
    • Ability to read, comprehend and apply various Federal and State regulations pertaining to livestock and poultry.
    • Ability to manage and supervise personnel.
    • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
    MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES:
    Previous laboratory and supervisory experience.
    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of North Carolina and three years of experience in the practice of veterinary medicine.
