    Opening Date: 06/28/2023Position Summary The maintenance custodian works to provide maintenance of the Heritage Center of Brooklyn Center property, including but not limited to structures, mechanical and electrical equipment, carpentry, painting, and plumbing.

    The maintenance custodian works under the general supervision of the Operations Director. Examples of DutiesEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesObserves, maintains, and repairs the equipment, buildings and landscape.
    Keeps logs on equipment and repairs, recommends replacement.
    Fixes mechanical equipment, keeping them in good working order.
    Monitors building HVAC to determine and correct where problems are occurring.
    Schedules, assigns, and delegates work to part-time maintenance staff.
    Works with customers on maintenance, including set-ups and janitorial duties.
    Performs painting, including caulking, tuck-pointing, and refinishing damaged/deteriorated items.
    Executes carpentry work, minor electrical duties, and various plumbing tasks.
    Takes care of landscaping, including fountain and exterior fixture maintenance as well as removing ice and snow.
    Handles inventory control.
    Develops and executes preventative maintenance lists and schedules.
    Engages in administrative duties such as building vendor relationships and obtaining bids for items and projects.
    Completes any other duties as assigned or apparent.

    Must be able to read and understand correspondence, memoranda, and directives, and follow such directives.

    Must have the ability to communicate effectively with persons who do not speak English and are from a variety of different cultures.

    Technical Knowledge:
    Must have working knowledge of building equipment (boilers, motors, etc.) and cleaning methods, materials and equipment. Must have ability to operate power tools and perform electrical, plumbing, carpentry and masonry work.


    Physical Abilities:
    Must have the ability to frequently lift objects up to 35 pounds from floor to shoulder height. Must occasionally lift over 35 to 75 pounds from floor to waist. Must be able to infrequently lift items from floor to shoulder height that weigh up to 100 pounds.

    In order to complete the essential duties, this position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, crawling, and reaching above shoulder level and away from body, kneeling, and twisting, turning, accurate balance, pushing, pulling, and lifting on a regular basis.

    Must be able to use hands for simple and firm grasping frequently; occasionally for fine manipulation. Must have the ability to read and discern visual images and written documentation. May work with a wide variety of equipment essential to complete assigned duties. Ability to work varied schedule as assigned. Minimum QualificationsDesirable QualificationsPossession of a valid Minnesota Special Boiler Engineer License - must obtain within probationary period.
    Carpentry experienceHVAC experiencePainting experienceAbility to speak, read or write any language other than English, including sign language.
    Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
    Two years combination of training/experience in field.
