- Patrols campus buildings and grounds by foot or by vehicle to ensure proper and lawful conduct of students, staff, and visitors
- Works inside and outside in extreme weather conditions; includingdriving a patrol vehicle in inclement and/or hazardous weather conditions
- Conducts investigations of incidents occurring on college property which includes collecting evidence, interviewing/interrogating suspects, witnesses, and victims
- Ensures appropriate disposition of incidents; prepares accurate, grammatically correct and complete incident/investigative reports as investigating officer and testifies in court appearances as necessary
- Enforces federal, state, and local laws, including the Oregon Criminal Code, Oregon Traffic Code, college motor vehicle code, and college policies; determines and takes appropriate action which may include inquiries, warnings, issuing citations, detaining and/or effecting arrests (using appropriate search and seizure procedures,) and/or contacting other law enforcement agencies; testifies in court as necessary
- Performs security and safety checks of college grounds and facilities to ensure a safe and healthy environment
- Assists other local law enforcement agencies as necessary; coordinates incident/crime reports; assists agencies with off-campus incidents as requested and approved
- Provides information and assistance to students, staff, faculty, and the general public; delivers emergency messages to students, staff, and faculty; provides motorist assistance and other appropriate courtesy services to the general public
- Provides general public safety office support as required
- Maintains knowledge and proficiency in Officer Safety Training procedures and the proper operation of vehicle and emergency equipment
- Responsible for properly maintaining the patrol vehicle and its assigned emergency equipment
- Accurately completes daily activity logs and other required documentation
- Provides safety escort to staff and students as requested
- Carries a college designated phone, answer and field calls and provide dispatch related services
- Provides Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) upon successfully completing the probationary period
- Responds to fire, medical, and other emergencies and provides crisis intervention in conflict or emergency situations; prioritizes calls, evaluates circumstances and determines appropriate course of action (including the use of emergency equipment and chemical and impact weapons), coordinates internal and external responses, secures hazardous areas, performs as an emergency first responder and assists emergency medical technicians

- Please note:The college is currently undertaking a comprehensive classification and compensation study. No employee will lose base pay because of this study, however, classification titles and pay grades may change. The successful candidate will receive notice of all changes prior to implementation which is currently projected for the Summer of 2024.
- This position has a 6-month probationary period

- Must pass the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT)within the State certified allotted time within 90 days of hire.

- Must have and maintain a current, valid Oregon Driver's license with a minimum of two years driving experience
- Must have a valid first aid CPR/AED certifications or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Must hold a certification as an unarmed private security provider from Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) or be able to obtain that certification within 90 days of hire.

POSITION SUMMARY
Chemeketa Community College is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Public Safety Officer.
Successful candidates will be trained to perform daily uniformed patrols of college campuses, providing safety and assistance to students, staff, and visitors.
Chemeketa Community College Public Safety Department is a Customer Service oriented team of compassionate and dedicated professionals committed to the safety of everyone on campus.
The position requires successful completion of the DPSST certification process and working varying hours, to include weekends and holidays.The Public Safety Department seeks continuing education and training in applicable career field development, making it a rewarding workplace to pursue a career in Public Safety Services.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Heavy Work:
Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Ability to perform a combination of physical tasks on a variety of terrain (including standing, walking, running, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, twisting body, pushing, pulling, reaching, and gripping) for a minimum of eight hours on an right hour shift.
Must possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 (aided or unaided) in both eyes combined; possess normal color discrimination, binocular coordination, and peripheral vision.
Must possess unaided or aided hearing with a hearing threshold that does not exceed 25db in either ear at the frequencies of 500 Hz, and 2000 Hz, and 2000 Hz (or an average of both ears of 25db for frequencies 500, 1000, and db for 3000 Hz, and 45 dB for 4000 Hz.VETERANS' PREFERENCE

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
