    Name of Position: Senior Buyer

    Department: Purchasing

    Reports to: Material Manager

    Scope of Position:

    Working under the direction of the Materials Manager, performs a wide range of commodity purchasing to supply production and facility along with special projects as requested. Develops and/or maintains performance data gathering and feedback mechanisms. Dedicated to controlling costs, supports safety and environmental initiatives, and in all other ways supports the business and customer expectations.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Manages vendors and manufactures, selects vendors, assesses vendor capabilities, develops vendor sources and evaluates vendor performance. Negotiates price and delivery. Resolves problems regarding delivery, pricing, returns, etc.
    • Identifies opportunities for improvement projects within the dialectic of continuous improvement; prioritizes and acts sequentially to implement the top ones.
    • Balances buy quantities with delivery times to induce the most inventory turns practical. Qualifies existing and potential vendors. Interacts with various departments internal and external to satisfy all process/procedures are maintained.
    • Assures department records are maintained, purchases are followed up and/or expedited when required. Insures appropriate documents are used stating terms and conditions.
    • Prioritizes customer on time shipments and departmental requests. Maintains all databases within the materials section to ensure proficient operation of the ERP system.

    Position Requirements:

    • Strong oral and written communication skills and inter personal skills needed for dealing effectively with outside vendors and co-workers.
    • A dominant personality well researched in commodities markets.
    • Ability to learn and aggressively adapt to varied work assignments.
    • Willingness to assure responsibility for accuracy of work performed.
    • College graduate or its equivalent plus 5-10 years in a related field.
    • Demonstrated performance history driving cost controls.
