    Job Description:

    The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementation and evaluating care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, and coordination of care with other health team members.
    This position provides an opportunity to provide specialized and coordinated care for infants, children, and teens of the Feeding and Swallowing Center & Esophageal and Airway Center.

    The Esophageal and Airway Center at Primary Children's Hospital is a multidisciplinary center that specializes in coordinated care and treatment of children with congenital or acquired conditions associated with the esophagus and airway. The team consists of general surgeons, Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeons, a pediatric gastroenterologist, pulmonologist, dietitian, speech therapist and nurse practitioner who all specialize in pediatrics.
    The Feeding and Swallowing Center at Primary Children's Hospital is a multidisciplinary center that offers specialized care for patients with feeding and swallowing challenges. These challenges can be secondary to premature birth, birth defects, genetic disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory problems, food allergies, etc. Our team of experts include gastroenterology, speech language pathology, dietitian, and nurse practitioner. Our clinics include Home Enteral Feeding Transitions (HEFT) clinic, Infant Feeding and Swallowing Consult (FSC) clinic and Intestinal Adaptations Clinic (IntAC).

    Job Duties:

    • Coordinate medical, surgical, psychosocial, and nutrition evaluation and on-going care needs of pediatric patients

    • Function as part of the multidisciplinary team; communicate patient needs to team members.

    • Provide pediatric age-specific care and interventions.

    •Assess, plan, and advocate for the patient and families in coordination of care along the continuum with the team, support personnel, community physicians, and outside agencies.

    •Provide accurate and timely documentation of care.

    •Demonstrate ability to independently make complex care decisions within established protocols.

    •Use critical thinking skills through the process, and involve the patient, family, physicians and the multidisciplinary team to establish and update the plan of care appropriately.

    •Participate in quality monitoring and process improvement activities and programs.

    •Participate in on-going education specific to digestive care through attendance at professional meetings, webinars, and literature review

    •Serve as a pathfinder and clinical expert by participating in, coordinating, and implementing center initiatives while monitoring and ensuring effective outcomes.

    Shift Details: full time, 40 hours a week, Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm, no weekends or holidays, daytime, no call.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Current RN License in state of practice.
    Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for healthcare providers.
    Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    RNs with less than 12 months of working experience as an RN prior to joining Intermountain must obtain their BSN within five years of their start date.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    RN work experience

    Pediatric experience, inpatient or clinic experience.

    Physical Requirements:

    Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
    - and -
    Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
    - and -
    Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
    - and -
    Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
    - and -
    Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

    May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
