    As our Finance Manager, you will work on a local team of seven experienced professionals and with business partners across the nation to steward a highly ranked and nationally recognized

    529 education saving program

    and the

    UA Scholars Program .


    Answering Alaska's challenge to equip more individuals with the financial resources needed to access, afford, and attain a credential past high school and build Alaska's skilled and trained workforce, our team leverages multimillion-dollar budgets to promote and manage Alaska 529 program and outreach initiatives, the Education Trust of Alaska's national recruitment campaign, and the UA Scholars Program.

    As our Finance Manager, you will provide financial leadership, expertise, and due diligence to ensure funds are spent according to the mission of the programs and managed according to University of Alaska accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles.


    You will find room to grow into a managerial role, guiding staff in all fiscal processes and developing expertise in this niche area of the University of Alaska System.

    As a supervisor and member of the Trust's leadership team, you will serve as a strategic advisor in developing short and long-term planning for the department.


    In this role, your day will include communication and interactions with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including program partners, current and prospective students, families saving for future education expenses, enrollment services teams, finance teams, and system office leadership.


    Though most fiscal projects and major tasks follow the University's fiscal year calendar, you will have the opportunity to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and manage short-term and long-term projects as identified.


    To thrive in this role, you must demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience working with generally accepted accounting principles and budget oversight.

    As a collaborator on a small team, you should be an outstanding communicator. You should be able to manage, inspire, and lead others and contribute to a culture of excellence.


    As you will be managing multiple budget worksheets and manipulating and analyzing extensive data sets, you should demonstrate a high skill level with Excel and other data management tools and attention to detail.

    You should have an extensive analytical and research skillset. You should be able to formulate unique and creative solutions for complex problems.

    Experience in office management and procedures are necessary skills the successful applicant must already have.

    Advanced problem-solving and project management skills. Ability to effectively enforce rules and regulations and ensure compliance. Ability to develop and deliver comprehensive training.


    Minimum Qualifications:


    Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and 5 years of professional fiscal experience managing one or more budgets, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.


    Position Details:
    This position is located in the UA System Office

    located on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus in the John Butrovich Building.

    This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package .

    UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage.

    New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule , Grade 81, based on education and experience.
