    The Facility
    • Fayetteville VAMCThe Fayetteville VA Medical Center (VAMC) is a Complexity Level 1c Medical Center authorized 58 general medical, surgical and mental health beds.
    We are located within 10 miles of Fort Bragg and Pope Army Air Base. In addition, Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base lie in the facility's catchment area. The medical center also maintains a 69-bed long-term care Community Living Center (CLC) to care for Veteran residents.

    Our CLC serves as host to the North Carolina State Veterans home in Fayetteville, a 150-bed long-term nursing home facility located adjacent to the medical center.

    Fayetteville VAMC serves Veterans in 19 counties in Southeastern North Carolina, serving 75,000+ patients, representing nearly 760,000 outpatient visits. We are also the largest catchment area in the VISN 6 Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Network.

    Fayetteville VAMC operates two Health Care Centers - 1 in Fayetteville and 1 in Wilmington, plus Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Brunswick County, Goldsboro, Hamlet, Jacksonville, Robeson County and Sanford.

    Our CBOCs provide Primary Care, Mental Health Care and offer Tele-health services for other specialties. Located off-site in Fayetteville, we opened the first community Dialysis Center in the VA health system nationwide. This freestanding dialysis unit has the capacity to treat 64 dialysis patients.

    We also utilize leased space in Fayetteville and Jacksonville to provide Readjustment Counseling Services for Veterans at the Vet Centers.


    Basic Responsibilities:
    Treatment and professional direction of outpatient/inpatient care as well as outpatient/inpatient care consultations.
    Provide professional direction and participate in the treatment team to evaluate, develop and implement treatment plans.
    Develop and implement follow-up plans.
    Participate in organization meetings and duties of the VA Medical Center as required.


    Clinical competence will include:

    Psychiatric ExaminationsDiagnostic FormulationTherapeutic PlanPatient ManagementDischarge summariesRecord Keeping/electronic medical recordsCurrent practice experience with acute outpatient and inpatient treatment with working knowledge of current pharmacologyCurrent practice experience in completion of involuntary commitment procedures per North Carolina state statuesThe psychiatrist may answer inpatient consultations.

    Other duties, as assigned by mutual agreement between the locum tenens and the COR or Contracting Officer.

    Qualifications/Requirements Must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited graduate school of Medicine.

    Must have successfully completed a residency program in psychiatry which has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association or those Canadian training programs approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or other appropriate Canadian medical authority.

    Must be board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Association.

    Must be in good standing, and under no restrictions, with the state licensure board in any state in which a license is held.
