- Change or install locks to ensure safety of people and equipment. Work with IT and contractors to keep magnetic card reader access doors working on campus.
- Repair and install locks as assigned
- Combinate cores for locks
- Cut keys as assigned
- Act as first-responder for elevator issues
- Order and maintain necessary equipment to perform the job
- Assist in the training of other maintenance personnel in areas where the locksmith has expertise as needed or at the direction of the supervisor
- Work with BU staff and contractors to provide them with assistance as needed or as directed by supervisor
- Ensure the proper and efficient use of materials, tools, and equipment (including vehicles) belonging to the University maintenance department
- Complete and close out all assigned work orders correctly. Completes all tasks in compliance with all OSHA rules and regulations
- Maintain a safe and clean shop work area
- Knowledge and training in locks and locking mechanisms and keying procedures. Experience in locksmith and related codes required
- Experience with elevators and proper extraction procedures for removing individuals from stuck elevator cars
- Possess a valid driver's license and have an MVR that passes the criteria set by our insurance carriers
- Be able to work and interact positively within a diverse, multi-cultural environment, and communicate with all members of the campus community in a professional and respectful manner.
- Must maintain a civil and professional relationship with members of the campus community
- General maintenance skills, i.e., basic plumbing, carpentry, etc.
