    SALARY INFORMATION:
    Grade I - $2,896.08-$3,934.40 Bi-Weekly

    Grade II - $3,541.28-$4,809.20 Bi-Weekly


    VACANCY INFORMATION:
    The classification is currently used in the Harbor and Public Works departments.

    The current vacancy is a Traffic Engineering Associate II ($3,541.28-$4,809.20 Bi-Weekly) position in the Transportation Mobility Division of the Public Works Department.


    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES


    Under general supervision, performs a variety of professional engineering work in the preparation, planning, and design of traffic engineering projects; performs traffic collision analyses with particular reference to engineering features involved; prepares and assist in the preparation of preliminary reports, plans, estimates, specifications, and designs for traffic signal installations and systems, parking facilities, and other traffic transportation projects; designs traffic signal timing systems; conducts route location and feasibility studies; reviews plans for roadway construction and off-street development projects; conducts special studies and prepares technical reports; plans traffic signing and striping projects, marking and lighting projects; may review recommendations and work of others; may interact with public officials; performs other related duties as required.

    Option A:


    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related field(proof required)*.


    OR

    Option B:


    Possession of a valid Engineer in Training Certificate recognized by the California State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists(proof required)*.

    *Proof of required documents, such as degree or transcripts, must be uploaded to the online application at the time of filing. Any proofs submitted must contain either the applicant's name or other identifying characteristics on the form. Degrees must indicate the field of study and transcripts must indicate a field of study and degree conferred date. Candidates who possess degrees from colleges or universities outside the United States must attach proof of educational equivalence at the time of filing.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.


    A valid class C driver license is required and a current DMV driving record must be submitted to the hiring department at time of selection.

    Willingness to work overtime, weekend, and/or holiday hours.


    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
    Coursework in traffic or transportation engineering; experience with traffic signal systems; and/or proficiency in computer-aided design.


    SELECTION PROCEDURE

    EXAMINATION WEIGHTS:

    Screening of applicants will be conducted on the basis of application and required supplemental application submitted.

    This selection procedure will be conducted using a continuous non-competitive process, which means applications are evaluated solely on training, experience, education, or certification.

    All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list.

    Applicants receiving Veterans Credit will be placed on the eligible list first and then in the order in which applications were filed.

    This is a continuous eligible list, which means eligible lists may be established periodically and may expire six months from their effective date.

    Applicants may apply only once during a four-month period.

    Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications with applications received by May 10, 2024, will be placed on Test #01 established eligible list.
