    The Southern Willamette Management Unit consists of roughly 2,545 acres with properties along the Coast and Middle Fork Willamette River, Dexter Reservoir, Fall Creek Reservoir, and along the McKenzie River. Parks in the unit range from undeveloped natural areas to developed parks that include multiuse trails, disc golf course, year round marina, multiple boat ramps, swimming areas, day use and overnight areas, picnic shelters, and a wide variety of recreational activities. The management unit office is located in Lowell, Oregon 31 miles east of Eugene off Highway 58 or 20 miles east of Springfield on the Jasper-Lowell County Road.

    This position falls under the classification Park Ranger Assistant.

    What is a Seasonal Park Ranger?

    We recruit for Seasonal Park Ranger positions each year. These positions generally work during our busiest time of year, April through September, when visitors flock to enjoy our beautiful parks. However, each park is unique and the duration of seasonal positions varies slightly from park to park.

    What you will do:

    Assist year-round State Park staff in the protection, maintenance, operation and repair of state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment and systems. Park Ranger Assistants typically perform basic tasks in a single area of park operations (e.g.: janitorial work, landscape maintenance, interpretation or visitor services), although some positions will require performing tasks in a variety of areas. Some work may require the most elementary skills in building trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and landscape maintenance. In addition, specialized skills in basic park maintenance and operations may be required. Park Ranger Assistants, on a task specific basis, may guide the work of individuals or teams composed of volunteers, seasonal, and/or temporary state park employees.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Six (6) months of experience (paid or unpaid) performing public contact or customer service duties (e.g. Teacher, Customer Service Representative, Salesperson, Receptionist, etc.) and/or maintenance experience (construction trades, landscaping, custodial, etc.);

    OR

    • Six (6) months of college in any discipline (24 quarter hours/16 semester hours)

    Special Requirements:

    • To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.
    • You must have a valid driver's license at the time of hire and throughout employment

    • Skill in practices relating to conservation, preservation and protection of significant natural or scenic resources.
    • Skill in developing and delivering basic resource interpretation presentations.
    • Skill in providing people with rule information and asking for compliance.
