    Description

    Daylight is a decentralized energy network building a more reliable and sustainable energy grid. Our platform supports energy applications like electrification marketplaces and programmable, distributed power plants, all powered by a collaborative community.

    Our work is fast-paced, collaborative, and cross-disciplinary. Our team works out of our New York City office.

    We are seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join our Platform team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for integrating energy devices, managing data pipelines, and maintaining the backend of our electrification marketplace, which connects customers with local contractors.

    Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain backend services for energy device integrations and data pipelines
  • Design and implement APIs for seamless communication between devices, data sources, and our platform
  • Optimize backend performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and enhance our electrification marketplace backend
  • Implement and maintain databases and data storage solutions
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes
  • Ensure the security and privacy of sensitive data
  • Work irregular hours and weekends when necessary

    Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in backend development
  • Strong proficiency in one or more of our primary backend languages: Python, Go, and Rust
  • Experience with backend frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask, Gin)
  • Familiarity with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB) and data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery)
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and event-driven systems
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) and serverless computing
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment

    Nice to Haves

  • Experience with IoT protocols and device integrations (e.g., MQTT, CoAP, Modbus)
  • Familiarity with data pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Kafka, Apache Airflow)
  • Knowledge of energy systems, markets, or related domains
  • Contributions to open-source projects or a strong presence in the backend community
