The Family Therapist and Educator position provides family therapy to patients and families in the Skyland Trail Adult Residential and Day Treatment programs.
This person will identify areas of need within the family system and use these areas to develop effective treatment planning for therapy sessions both during treatment and post-discharge.
The Family Therapist and Educator is responsible for working with assigned patients and families to identify the goals of the family while supporting a loved one currently involved in treatment services.
The Family Therapist and Educator will provide resources, support, and education to families served in the Skyland Trail Adult and Adolescent Residential and Day Treatment programs.
Duties:
Therapy:
Conduct family therapy sessions with patients and their families that focus on identifying the needs of the family as they relate to the client in treatment Utilize effective and evidence-based therapy skills to promote education and support during therapy sessions Assist family in identifying effective methods of supporting the patient currently participating in treatment Maintain appropriate progress notes to document the status of therapy sessions Communicate with insurance companies when clinical information is needed to support authorization/reimbursement for family therapy and testing services Effectively communicate status of therapy to necessary parties (e.g.
primary counselors, psychiatrists, additional staff, families), including attending daily multidisciplinary staff meetings Responsible for coordination of scheduling for family therapy sessions Provide additional clinical services, as needed Education:
Coordinate and facilitate the following for the adult campus: Weekly STEP meetings, Family Weekend trainings, New Family Orientation, Psychoeducational Groups for Families Schedule speakers for educational events Develop curriculum for educational events in conjunction with clinical team Assist in the development of additional topics/subjects at educational events Survey families throughout the year for continual improvements Review and expand educational resources (videos, Family Portal, reading materials, couples and family therapists, family programs, videos, web sites, etc.)
Continue and develop relationships with community partners (NAMI, NEABPD, PFLAG, DBHDD, JF&CS, DBSA, etc.) Competencies:
This position should have sufficient skill or ability in the following areas: Assessment of family system operations and functions Addressing cultural factors in therapy and educational presentations Connecting to/Aligning with different cultural communities to address issues of mental health education and treatment Ability to develop cohesive educational presentations and present to audiences clearly and effectively Openness to change; forward thinking, flexibilityQualificationsQualifications:Minimum of a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling Must have current, active licensure in the state of Georgia or be license eligible Prior experience in providing therapy services in a setting for the treatment of the chronically mentally ill Experience with providing family therapy Prior experience in conducting family therapy Excellent verbal and written communication skills Salary & Benefits:Competitive salary commensurate with experience
