    Chief Executive OfficerJob SummaryThe Medical Director acts as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the organization, providing oversight of all aspects of medical care throughout the clinic.

    The Medical Director is a member of the Leadership Team.

    They act as a clinical leader by providing strategic vision, directly supervising medical providers, the RN manager, holistic services, and students participating in Lyon-Martins clinical rotation, increasing staff competencies and satisfaction through training and mentorship, and improving the overall quality and efficiency of the delivery of clinical services.

    The Medical Director is responsible for the organizations Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance Program.

    The Medical Director informs the Leadership Team on medically related issues, including but not limited to Quality Assurance, Quality Improvement, Compliance, workflow, equipment, audits (including chart audits and peer review), billing and coding, staff training, credentialing and privileging and best clinical practices.

    In addition, the Medical Director maintains patient panel utilizing a trauma-informed, harm reduction model of care, including providing some after-hours coverage for the clinic by telephone on a rotating basis.

    They will work closely with the Director of Mental Health Services and the mental health department to facilitate a collaborative, holistic and integrated model of care.

    They are expected to maintain a high degree of professional competence, the highest possible ethical standards, and to function as part of a care-giving team.

    Key ResponsibilitiesSupervisor Responsibilities :


    Works in collaboration with leadership team and staff to develop, implement, and approve Policies & Procedures pertaining to the Medical Department.

    Provides clinical leadership and oversight to advanced practice providers, nurses, medical assistants, care coordinators, and students.
    Provides supervision to all medical providers and RN manager. Performs annual performance appraisal of all direct reports. Reviews employee performance, provides feedback and makes recommendations for individual performance improvement and development.

    Enter into collaborative agreement with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) including full supervision, clinical supervision, peer review and hiring or termination of the provider or clinical support staff.

    Promotes and enhances integrated team-based care in the provision of medical care, including patient centered care.

    In collaboration with Associate Medical Director, oversees creation of on-call and provider of the day coverage plans when an APP is absent so that a coverage is available to review lab and diagnostic reports, prescriptions, and follow up on medical care for that APPs patient panel.

    Thorough understanding of, supervision of, and promotion of continuous quality improvement efforts. Oversees QI Subcommittee and PDSAs. Reports QI findings to the Board quarterly.
    Provides oversight for peer chart review process quarterly.

    In collaboration with Associate Medical Director, orients and on-boards new physicians and mid-level providers; monitors performance during initial employment and thereafter through chart audits, utilization review and other processes.

    Oversees Research activities.


    Clinical responsibilities:
    Demonstrates clinical expertise in primary healthcare for queer, transgender and intersex populations and gynecological care.

    Provides comprehensive care, within the scope of credentialed privileges and standardized procedures, to patients within an integrated delivery model according to pre-arranged schedules, documenting care promptly and following charting protocols and applicable CA state licensing requirements; completes patient sessions in a timely manner;Ensures appropriate follow-up for all aspects of ordered care (e.g., specialty referrals, laboratory results, radiology reports, etc.);Responds to patient requests for information and assistance (e.g., form completion, prescription refills, etc.) in a timely manner;Works collaboratively with mental health staff to facilitate integration between primary care and mental health in order to improve patient outcomes;Provides on-call after-hours availability on a rotating basis;Obtains and maintains licensure, DEA registration and BCLS/CPR certification;Attends continuing professional education programs, at the request or with the approval of supervisor, demonstrating participation in required hours of continuing medical education according to California law.


    Agency Development/Support Responsibilities:
    Participates in and provides guidance for credentialing and privileging.
    Attends and participates in Provider Team Meetings, Collaborative Care Meetings and All Staff Meetings.
    Leads Provider Team Meetings and develop/coordinate rotating curricula of educational/training material.
    Precepts medical students, residents, and fellows. Able to educate, train, and supervise volunteers as necessary to maintain and build volunteer programs.
    Provides clinical leadership to Patient Centered Medical/Health Home delivery model, integrated team-based care, and care coordination.
    Supports and actively participates in clinical performance improvement initiatives.
    Serve as a spokesperson, speaks at conferences, events, or to media on behalf of the organization, when appropriate.
