    The primary responsibility is to facilitate maintenance driven construction projects within existing facilities and parks.

    Incumbents provide advanced journey level engineering, project management and construction management work and are considered subject matter experts with the highest level of knowledge, providing consultation to other engineering staff and to management.

    As assigned, incumbents may serve as lead workers, assigning work and monitoring work completion or may supervise professional, paraprofessional and/or support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.

    Duties and Responsibilities


    Essential Duties:


    Provides advanced technical, project management, engineering work, development plan reviews, coordination, and oversight of project design and construction; monitors adherence of projects and processes with policies, procedures, applicable codes, specifications, regulations and standards.


    May serve as lead worker assigning work and monitoring work completion or may supervise staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.

    Provides project management and coordination of stakeholders and resources which may include consultant selection, project scoping, contract negotiation, design oversight, schedule monitoring, budget development, funding administration, and project close-out.

    Oversees and administers construction projects including bid and contract administration, construction oversight, coordination of permitting, document reviews, and facilitation of progress meetings.

    Attends, conducts and delivers presentations at various meetings; performs public outreach; prepares agendas, reports, cost estimates, computations, specifications, schedules, engineering drawings and other related documentation and communications materials.

    Typical Qualifications


    Education and Experience:
    Bachelor's degree in engineering or directly related field and five years of professional engineering and/or construction/project management experience in area of assignment


    OR


    An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.


    Licensing and Certifications:
    License as a Professional Architect in the State of North Carolina License as a Professional Engineering in the State of North Carolina Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Construction Document Technologist (such as certification through the Construction Specifications Institute or similar training/ certification) Project management training (such as certification through the Project Management Institute or similar training/certification) AutoCAD proficiency E-Builder proficiency

Authoring and preparing original reports, documents and presentations. Providing customer service. Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications.

    Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.


    ADA and Other Requirements:


    Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.


    Medium Work :


    Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


    Working Conditions :


    Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); frequent exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, movement restrictions, intense noise or travel.
