SAFETY AIDE
HOURS:
40 hours per week
BARGAINING UNIT:
Local 860 Union
Pay Grade B = $19.00
LOCATION:
Main Campus

Education:
High school diploma or GED
Experience:
Experience in a customer service setting.
Demonstrated interest in safety and security. Some experience in safety and security preferred.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:
Ability to analyze situations and quickly make sound judgements calmly and quickly.
Ability to relate to diverse and special needs populations.
Read, understand, and communicate information and ideas presented in writing.
Use mathematics to solve problems.
General principles and objectives of information technology systems and programs.
Basic proficiency in MS Office or similar software is required. Relevant business equipment including the use of basic computer programs and systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:
Assist patrons and staff with directions or information.
Perform walking patrols on library campus.
Monitor CCTV or building access control systems.
Answer phone calls or radio broadcasts from staff and coworkers.
Report any suspicious activity or accidents to a safety supervisor via two-way radio, phone or in person.
Under the direction of a supervisor, serves as a safety representative at Library locations.
Under the direction of a supervisor, may assist various departments with security related tasks.
Under direction of a supervisor, assist with emergency evacuations, building sweeps and other activities related to the safety of a library location.
Under the direction of a supervisor, assist patrons and staff during emergencies or disaster situations.Write incident reports and take notes on suspicious activities and report.
Under the direction of a supervisor, assist in maintaining patron code of conduct.
Report unauthorized person on campus to supervisor or via two-way radio.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
