- Oversee building of sets, lights and other technical aspects for producing a season of one straight play and one musical in a small 195-seat house.
- Supervise student workers to accomplish this work by teaching basic construction, scenic painting, prop fabrication skills, basic lighting and sound design.
- Supervision includes making work assignments, verifying hours worked, processing time cards, etc. as appropriate for students doing work study, Mark 10:45 (student service program), paid temp work, Company Muster hours, and/or Production Practicum hours.
- Supervise and/or coordinate with any possible contract workers required to accomplish above technical work.
- Order and purchase scenic and related materials in collaboration with the Artistic Director; supervise the use of, and inventory of, scenic and related materials.
- Attend production meetings for plays in production, plus other departmental meetings, as scheduled.
- Attend rehearsals and provide input as needed.
- Additional training of and counsel to Stage Managers, as needed.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in technical theatre production.
- Strong creative, management, organizational, building, stage lighting and/or scene painting skills.
- Experience managing budgets, and supervising crew personnel.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical theatre, scene painting, lighting and/or stage management, with significant demonstrated success.
- Working knowledge of Google Apps and experience with a website content management system.
- An acceptance of and commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
- An understanding of and commitment to Scripture and the mission and purpose of Covenant College.
- Must be able to assent to Covenant College's Staff Commitments.
- This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates part of the time in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other job-related technology, and part of the time in creative workspaces working alongside students.
- There is a mix of mainly standing and sitting, but also bending, squatting and carrying for building, painting and related purposes.
- Classified as medium, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 35 lbs.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken and written word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language.
- Generally, college hours of operation for full-time staff are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. For this position, days and hours of work are somewhat variable depending on the requirements of a given theatre production and season. Occasional evening and weekend work may be preferable, as job duties demand.

Covenant has a beautiful 400-acre campus that stretches atop Lookout Mountain, Georgia on the Georgia/Tennessee border, just outside of Chattanooga. The campus enjoys incredible vistas of the Smoky Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau with views that span across several states. Summary:
The Technical Director in Theatre is a 10-month, academic year appointment. The Technical Director will oversee and direct the technical aspects of dramatic production for Covenant College Theatre, by overseeing and/or performing the work of set, sound, light, and prop production. Depending on the show, this may involve conceiving of the design and working with guest or student designers. The Technical Director is responsible for managing the production budget, purchase of scenic materials, training and supervision of student workers, crew and temporary staff workers and for attending production meetings and rehearsals as needed, by agreement.
