    Position Summary:

    The Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Immunology at Morehouse School of Medicine is currently seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join Dr. Erica L. Johnson's lab. The focus of the research is placental immunology during pregnancy and the transmission of HIV, HCMV, and other significant pathogens affecting child health globally. The fellow will lead a project investigating viral protection and transmission mechanisms during pregnancy, with an emphasis on racial disparities in maternal-infant health (R01-funded).

    Applicants must have a PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree with a strong background in immunology, virology, molecular biology, developmental biology, or genetics. Strong research skills, scientific rigor, excellent communication, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent in relevant field
    • Previous experience in molecular and cellular biology
    • Ability to work with hazardous agents and follow safety protocols

    Job Duties:
    • Lead a project on placental immunology and mother-to-child transmission of pathogens
    • Conduct complex research and experiments as requested
    • Process human samples, occasionally working non-standard hours
    • Collaborate with lab members for synergistic projects
    • Assist in other lab projects as needed
    • Analyze data for publications and presentations
    • Stay updated on related research and mentor students
    • Seek funding for training and career development

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Postdoctoral Fellow will oversee graduate students and engage in lab activities assigned by the PI.
