    Join Our Team as a Heavy Equipment Lube Technician in Rapid City, SD

    Western Construction in Rapid City SD is currently seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our team as a Full-Time Lube Technician. As a critical member of our team, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our heavy equipment fleet.

    The Lube Technician will drive company equipment to off-site locations, to perform lubrication, service, and preventative maintenance work on heavy equipment. They will also perform minor mechanical field repairs on equipment, maintain records and preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment, and perform related work as required. Your attention to detail and expertise in preventative maintenance and lubrication procedures will directly impact the efficiency of our operations and contribute to the success of our projects.

    Responsibilities:

    • Use standard lubricants and oil to service vehicles and equipment.
    • Service gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment – i.e., grease, change oil, and air filters, checking and adding fluids for transmission, cooling system, hydraulics, and differential.
    • Perform minor mechanical repairs on assigned equipment including brake adjustments, leak repairs, install and replace hoses, fan belts, alternators, and batteries.
    • Replace heavy equipment components including grader blades and cutting edges.
    • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance inspections of heavy equipment, gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, and vehicles.
    • Have a working knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine components and equipment, including water pumps, complete brake systems, power steering pumps, starters, charging systems, drivelines, and suspension systems.
    • Monitor records and track hours of service for assigned vehicles and equipment.
    • Install fire extinguishers and safety equipment.
    • Follow standards in ordering necessary parts.
    • Complete necessary daily walkarounds and checks on equipment.
    • Maintain proper shop paperwork.
    • Take direction and accomplish duties outlined by your supervisor and ask questions when you do not understand the task.
    • Be dependable to your team: You work as a team and progress as a team.

    Qualifications:

    • Successfully pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and physical.
    • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Minimum of one year experience using general tools and equipment to service, inspect, maintain, and perform minor mechanical repairs on automotive or diesel equipment or vehicles.
    • Must know general tools, equipment, and methods used in servicing, preventative maintenance, vehicle and equipment inspection work, and minor mechanical repair work.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand equipment manuals and technical specifications.
    • Attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions meticulously.
    • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time to meet deadlines without compromising quality.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think critically in high-pressure situations.
    • Strong commitment to workplace safety and willingness to always adhere to safety guidelines.
    • Must have personal transportation to and from the main shop area.
    • Must arrive on time at the job site fit for duty for the required shift and have personal protective equipment (PPE) and necessary tools with you.
    • Attend all safety meetings and maintain safe job site practices following company policy.
    • Wear and maintain PPE as directed by the supervisor and safety team, including but not limited to hard hats, safety glasses, and high visibility vests.
    • Willingness to learn and master new tasks, duties, and responsibilities.
    • Identify and communicate any job site hazards.
    • Safely and correctly operate all equipment and manual/power tools. Do not operate any equipment or tools that you have not been trained to use properly.
    • Keep all tools in good, clean, and operating order.
    • Demonstrate and promote safety and proper housekeeping on all job sites and at the shop.
    • Display a positive attitude towards the company, fellow employees, and customers.
    • Willingness to travel out-of-town.
    • Flexibility to work overtime or weekends when required, depending on project deadlines and equipment needs.

    Required Tools:

    Must have own mechanic's tools to work on heavy equipment.

    Physical Requirements

    • Able to physically lift heavy materials (up to 50 pounds) frequently throughout the work shift with or without assistance.
    • Frequent walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
    • Standing/working on feet for extended periods and walking across uneven terrain, climbing up and down ladders and stairways
    • Able to work in extreme weather conditions and elements, including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, etc.
    • Frequent exposure to noise, dust, fuel, oil, and other chemicals.
    • Able to wear personal protective equipment and any other safety-related equipment.
    • Able to work a minimum of 8 hours a day and overtime as required.
