Posting Number SP004329P Position Title Research Associate I - Fisheries Division/College College of Natural Resources Department Fish & Wildlife Sciences Location Moscow Posting Context Statement Incumbent will report to Dr. Matt Falcy. In consultation with Dr. Falcy, incumbent will develop relationships with fisheries managers to refine and develop, implement, and communicate sophisticated models of steelhead survival. Incumbent will contribute to the intellectual atmosphere of the Fish and Wildlife Sciences Department by working in an office setting, participating in the lab group meetings, and offering statistical and R consulting services to graduate students. Position Overview Performs research activities and analysis; implements and evaluates research procedures and data. Records observations and measurements then reports results. Responsible for analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude. May supervise junior research personnel.

    Duties may include:
  • Providing technical support in planning and/or designing of scientific projects, studies, or applications
  • Planning and conducting research and analysis of scientific data
  • Interpreting test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
  • Identifying and evaluating scientific samples and determining need for further testing
  • Developing recommendations and/or providing solutions, standards, and protocol to a wide range of difficult problems
  • Planning, designing, developing, monitoring and/or evaluating portions of a scientific project, study, or application
  • Providing scientific evaluations/assessments
  • Researching, implementing, standardizing, and evaluating new procedures
  • Maintaining detailed records of results and prepares written reports acceptable to the Principal Investigator and funding agencies

  • Two years of post-bachelor's research experience related to the domain of this position
  • Required Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in in biology, ecology, environmental science/management, or fisheries

  • Additional Preferred
  • Knowledge of steelhead ecology, as demonstrated though research experience with this species culminating in written research products
  • Ability to communicate across a wide range of technical competencies, as demonstrated with experience advising undergraduates and coordinating with professional researchers and managers
  • Mastery of R programming, as demonstrated with the production of large (>1000 lines) scripts written without assistance
  • Mastery of Bayesian data analysis, as demonstrated through graduate-level education and application to novel research questions
  • Familiarity with Cormack-Jolly-Seber models, as demonstrated through graduate-level education or application to novel research questions
  • Mastery of hierarchical models and/or mixed effects models, as demonstrated through graduate-level education and application to novel research questions
